I am not convinced that ‘classic’ totalitarian fascism is going to happen any time soon, but certainly we are living in a world that resembles more and more the one presented in 1984.

And yes, I agree that my intro is stereotyping unfairly. I apologise for that. I wanted to draw attention to the health-care issue in advance, because that has been the cause that a lot of this lunacy seems to have crystallised around. I should probably change the ‘if’ to ‘and’.

I oppose universal health-care, but I doubt any of the “hard-line right-wingers” would accept me in their midst. It boils down to freedom and what people think they should have rights to (namely the services/goods of other people), but that is a debate for another post.

I see the connections to Paxton’s studies, but I am not knowledgeable enough to say it has no faults (are there other opposing theories?). Still, I don’t like the course America is on and regardless if a fascist regime (have you checked out the police state of Britain yet?) actually does rise to power, what we have now is not much better.

As an intelligent white non-christain, I have looked for options. A few years out of the Marine Corps, I had truly considered moving to Norway. But, I decided I would stick it out because someone is going to have to organize the resistance.
